A lawn aerator is an important tool used
in gardening. A lawn may look beautiful
on the surface, but underneath the top
layer, to a level of four inches, your
lawn may be developing a condition known
as thatch. Simply put, a lawn aerator
will break up thatch, allow the flow and
circulation of oxygen to permeate
through your lawn, and will reduce the
amount of weeds that are directly below
the top layer of soil. Thatch is a
combination of weeds, decaying matter,
and roots. When it becomes thickly
compacted, it is the perfect host and
breeding ground for pests and insects.
If thatch isn’t removed it will rob
vital nutrients from your lawn and your
beautiful landscape will suffer. You may
begin to notice that the soil is no
longer absorbing water or nutrients and
that your lawn begins to become
discolored. If you have thatch in the
underlying four inches of your soil, you
need a lawn aerator.
